Art in the Park June 2023 | Blowing Rock, NC

Last weekend’s Art in the Park in Blowing Rock, NC made me question why in the world I had never exhibited there before. As one of my beloved collectors said when they saw me setup there: “What took you so long to come up to Blowing Rock?” I honestly cannot tell you. After this Saturday, however, I’m all the more eager to spend so much of my summer up in the High Country.

This summer, I have my first ever Artist Residency at the Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock, NC from June 26th to July 2nd, plus two more Art in the Park shows - one on Saturday, July 15th and the other on Saturday, August 12th.

If these art events are anything like June’s Art in the Park, then it’s going to be a beautiful, fun, art-filled summer! At June’s Art in the Park, my original painting “Blood Moon Rising” - inspired by last year’s superflower blood moon lunar eclipse - found its dream home with collectors who love the coast and have their own magical lunar eclipse story. Their’s is perhaps a bit more exotic (involving Petra, Jordan, beautiful prayer songs hanging in the air, and a lunar eclipse in a dark sky over archeological ruins), but our stories resonated with each other’s all the same.

The sweet little piece “Blue Ridge Baby IV” also found its home this weekend with the manager of my very favorite art supply story: Jerry’s Artarama. To say I’m flattered would be an understatement.

Thank you to all my new Blowing Rock collectors for such a wonderful day of mountain sunshine and fine art. I know that we lucked out with bluebird skies and the best, most mild summery weather the mountains can offer, but fingers crossed that more of this summer’s Blowing Rock events are blessed just the same.

I hope to see you all again two weeks from now at my first Artist Residency, the week of June 26th-July 2nd. I’m so honored to have been selected by the Blowing Rock Historical Society’s as a 2023 Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage. During this residency, I will paint and exhibit my work in the charming Edgewood Cottage, right next to the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM).

This residency is especially meaningful to me - and not just because it’s my first ever artist residency (although that in and of itself is thrilling). This particular residency is significant to me because my first job post-college graduation was as an Art Gallery Associate at an art gallery in Blowing Rock, NC, directly across the street from the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum and Edgewood Cottage. I used to park at the museum and walk to work, passing by the Edgewood Cottage and day-dreaming that one day perhaps my work would adorn those walls. I’m thrilled to turn that dream into a reality this summer.

Swing by for a visit sometime the week of June 26th-July 2nd to say hello and see my work exhibited in this space. I’ll have all new original paintings and high quality prints available for sale, and you’ll even have a chance to see me paint live for visitors. I hope to see you then!
