Art In Situ - Part VI

As we enter a new year, I’ve loved dreaming of the places my art might shine in. It’s led me to reflecting even more gratefully on a few of the places my work already resides. Here I’ve curated a few of my favorite in situ photos of my art in their dream homes from the last six months.

I take such pleasure in witnessing how each piece effortlessly weaves through an entire room, complementing your interior design. Your generosity in sharing in situ images offers me a delightful peek into your exquisitely curated spaces. It's not only a joy but also an honor to see my paintings find their stunning forever homes. These placements always have a way of looking and feeling meant to be, as if my work was just waiting for you.

This Charlotte-based couple first discovered my work on a trip up to Blowing Rock, NC. When they returned from their mountain trip still thinking about this piece, “Feelin’ Blue,” they knew it was meant to live with them.

Occasionally, I get to install a work of art myself, and I LOVE it. It brings me back to when I was a Fine Art Consultant for an art gallery called Gallery MAR (the best job ever, aside from this one). Now, I get to use that art gallery experience to help my own beloved collectors.

Pros for You: You get a free, professional installation
Pros for me: I get a chance to get to know you better and to see how my work shines in your beautiful home

So if you’re a local collector (an hour or so away from Winston Salem, NC) and are intimidated by the installation process, send me a message, and I’ll be happy to install your new piece for you.

This art installation was one of those moments that feels absolutely, divinely meant-to-be. When this young woman walked into my tent at the Bethesda Row Art Festival in Bethesda, MD and saw this piece, her first response was “uh-oh.” She hadn’t been planning to make any big art purchases that day, but when she turned the corner and saw this piece, she knew she was in trouble. She had been looking for a piece for above her bed, and as she described the space to me, I understood exactly why she had the reaction she did. This piece, “Pilot Mountain Tulips” was destined for her space.

After some consideration, she decided that she just couldn’t let such a perfect match pass her by. When she later sent me this installation photo of the work in her space, I gasped with delight. I now cannot imagine this work finding a better home than this one.

When this lovely Cary family stopped by my tent at the Blowing Rock Art in the Park, they were on the hunt for the perfect piece to fit their unique ornate gold frame. They had been searching for the right piece for this frame and this space for years.

When they saw the original “Feelin’ Blue”, they fell in love, but they worried that it was too large to fit in their frame. Fortunately, I had the perfect solution for them: canvas reproductions. I was able to get them a “Feelin’ Blue - Canvas Reproduction” in exactly the right size and shape for their frame. Now this work hangs proudly and beautifully in their master bedroom - a cathedral-esque window to stare into each morning and night.

When I first launched my “Feelin’ Blue” series last Spring, as always, I gave my Collector’s Club exclusive first access. Within minutes of pressing “send” on my newsletter blast, this piece, “Almost Heaven” was sold. One of my personal favorites in the new series, this piece has now found its dream home among family and friends above this beautiful, class fireplace mantel.

I was excited to display this painting of the Charlotte skyline at the Festival in the Park this year in Charlotte, NC. It was so much fun to get the real-time reactions of Charlotteans walking by, and I was delighted to sell plenty of “Charlotte Sunflower Moonrise - Prints.”

One woman, however, made a couple of laps around Freedom Lake to look at this piece again and again. Finally she turned to me and said, “how has that piece not sold yet?!” I joked, “because it’s been waiting for you!” She laughed and then pulled out her phone to show me her screensaver - it was a picture of her surrounded by sunflowers. “I guess so!” she said, pulling out her credit card to buy it. This time, I laughed when I looked at her credit card - it was covered in pictures of sunflowers. Talk about meant to be!

This lovely local couple first collected my work from my Camino Brookstown solo exhibition in Spring of 2022. There they purchased my original work “Hanging Rock.” Later that year, they picked up a “Stone Mountain Fall - Print” for their bathroom at the Ardmore Art Walk. Now, with the release of my latest works this past fall, they claimed two of my favorite new mixed media works: “Rhododendron Halo I” and “Rhododendron Halo II.” I was thrilled to get to drop off the works myself in person and meet their darling newborn baby. I’m so honored that three of my original works now hang in their family room - among the first pieces of fine art their baby will ever see. It’s such a privilege to get to be a part of your lives in this way.

This adorable local family stopped by my booth at this year’s Ardmore Art Walk and were drawn right to this piece. After seeing how the color of their wall perfectly harmonizes with the shades of steel blue in this work, I can see why. What a dreamy home for this mystic piece.

This Charlotte couple and their new baby strolled through the Festival in the Park in Charlotte, NC this past fall looking for their new home’s first fine art pieces. I was honored that they immediately narrowed in on a few of my works for their family’s first fine art purchases. When I created these four works, I had hoped that they would all hang together, but I wasn’t certain that they would all be sold together. Happily, all four of these works now bring joy and beauty to this bedroom together, arranged even more beautifully than I could have hoped for.

This piece made quite the impression on a couple at the Bethesda Row Art Festival. So much so that even long after the festival ended, they were still thinking about this piece. Then when I hung the work up in my booth at the RiverArtsFest in Memphis, TN, I got a notification that they had bought the work. I quickly pulled out one of my little red dot stickers and marked the work as sold. After I shipped the work their way, they send me this picture of the work hanging beautifully above their fireplace mantel, complete with chopped wood for their fireplace and exposed wood beams - the perfect modern rustic pairing for this mountain piece.

When this collector first saw this work of the Roanoke Valley at the Sidewalk Art Show in Roanoke, VA, she gasped. She pulled out her phone to show me a picture of the view from her window at home - it was the same view as the painting! It’s as if this piece was meant for her and her home.

Happily, you can now find prints of this piece: “Roanoke Valley - Print

When this Raleigh couple was disappointed to have missed out on the original of this “Hoping for Raleigh” skyline at Artsplosure, we came up with a solution: my largest print yet! Seeing the details of this piece blown up at that scale made them all the more special. I love how the cheery colors and whimsical feeling of this painting pairs beautifully with their happy, modern home.

I just love how this collector chose three prints in different shapes, different subject matter, and from different releases that still all seem to flow together beautifully. They key here was touching on their similar color palette and allowing that common thread to pull these works together. Together with the sleek black frames and her modern couch, “Moonlit Waves - Print,” “Rising Dawn - Print,” and “Timpanogos Alpenglow - Print” all feel so gorgeously unique, yet harmonious.

I’m always honored when my prints become a gallery wall in someone’s home. This local Winston Salem family chose three different prints - “Appalachian Autumn,” “Pilot Mountain Dogwood,” and “Linn Cove Viaduct” - in various sizes to create the perfect gallery wall - tied together by graphic style and modern framing.

I offer my heartfelt gratitude to my collectors for not only welcoming my work into their lives and homes, but for also graciously sending in these in situ pictures. It gives me such renewed purpose in the studio, knowing that each piece that I pour my heart into will be cherished in some perfect space for years to come. Your thoughtful contributions truly make the artistic journey even more rewarding.
